Germany`s Fraport Bulgarian Airports Post Mixed 5-mo Traffic Results15.06.2012

Germany`s Fraport reported mixed five-month passenger traffic results for the two airports it operates on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The number of passengers serviced by Fraport at the Varna airport, on the northern Black Sea coast, dropped by 39.3% on the year to 104,113 in the five months through May, while at the Burgas airport, on the southern Black Sea coast, passengers rose by an annual 15.3% to 164,750, Fraport said in a statement on Thursday.
Varna airport`s low performance was mainly due to its closure for renovations from October 15 to February 28. During this period, flights from and to Varna were services by the Burgas airport.
Cargo traffic serviced at the Varna airport through May fell by an annual 57.3% to only 9.0 tonnes. At the Burgas airport, cargo traffic dropped by 71.6% on the year to 718 tonnes.
Aircraft movements at the Varna airport went down 42.7% on the year to 1,487, while at the Burgas airport they rose by 1.2% to 2,514 in the first five months of the year.
In May alone, Fraport serviced 63,002 passengers at the Varna airport, down by an annual 15.7%, and 87,163 passengers at the Burgas airport, down 7.3% on the year.
In 2006, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, a 60/40 joint venture of Fraport and Bulgarian company BM Star, won a 35-year concession to manage the airports in Burgas and Varna.
